COVID-19 Updated Quarantine Protocol

COVID-19 Updated Quarantine Protocol

Resolution 46-2021

The following is the protocol that will be used when a student is identified as a close contact to a positive case of COVID-19 as of September 27, 2021.

  •    All students and staff are highly encouraged to wear a mask in order to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
  • Students who are exhibiting symptoms of illness are quarantined (isolated) until recovered from symptoms or are fever free or have a negative COVID-19 test.
  • Students who are positive to a COVID-19 test are isolated for 10 days and may return after 10 days symptom free.
  • If a student has close contact with a person at school who has tested positive for COVID-19, the administration will contact the student's parent/caregiver to inform them the student was in close contact with a positive person in accordance with CDC guidelines.
  • Close contacts are not quarantined from school and are eligible to participate in all in school activities. Parents/caregivers should continue to monitor the close contact student for symptoms of COVID-19. In order for students to be permitted to return to school:
    • Parents must sign off on a daily health check which includes temperature and observation noting symptom free that will be submitted to the main office upon arrival to school for ten days. Failure to provide the health check will require the student to remain masked appropriately for the day until a new health check can be submitted the following school day.
    • Or, Students may elect to wear a mask for the ten days of quarantine if they chose not to participate in the health check.
    • Or, a student may wear a mask for a five day period of time while in attendance and submit a negative test result after day five in order to return to school without a mask.
    • Failure to provide a health check will prevent the student from participating in any extracurricular/co-curricular activities that day.
  • If a close contact student does quarantine voluntarily, they will not face penalties if work is made up.
  • Symptoms should be monitored continuously for at least ten days.

Student athletes who are identified as a close contact will not be permitted to participate in competitions in their respective sport during the 10 day quarantine period following all OHSAA guidelines regardless of their choice to provide a health check, 10 day mask option, or 5 day test option noted above.

Students who, by their own choice, opt to remain fully masked while attending school are not subject to quarantine.

Isolation refers to a student who is experiencing symptoms of COVID.

Quarantine is a student who has been exposed to a positive COVID case.
